It's Time to Stop SCA 5

Earlier this year, the California State Senate passed SCA 5, which has been correctly dubbed "Skin Color Act 5". Supporters of SCA 5 have complained that Asians are "over-represented" on college campuses, making up 36% of UC admissions while only being 15% of the population. It's clear that the goal of SCA 5 is to cap Asian enrollment at California's universities. (read more)

This year, the California State Senate passed SCA 5, which has been correctly dubbed "Skin Color Act 5". This bill would repeal provisions of an anti-discrimination law, Proposition 209, which voters passed in 1996. The main effect of SCA 5 would be to allow the University of California system to start actively discriminating against students on the basis of race. (read more)

When California's budget doesn't balance, there's always a debate over whether we have a "spending problem" or a "revenue problem". And we are told we must decide between cuts to government services or higher taxes. But I think this debate misses a larger point, which is that insofar as we have a revenue problem, it is not because we are taxed too little. But rather, it is because we are taxed too much. It's Christmas time. I love this time of year. It's the time of year when my Democrat opponent likes to wish his friends and followers a "Happy Santa Day". Yeah, I know, seriously?

Anyway, there's no question that Santa is a popular guy, giving away presents to all the good little boys and girls. But if you stop and think about it, Santa has the easy job. All he does is give away toys he didn't create, using wealth he didn't earn. It's those little elves who have the hard job. They're the ones who have to work all year long to make the toys that Santa then gets the credit for. (read more)
